Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh .
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ .
May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you.
Today we will read about Layaltul Qadar -The night of decree.
What is Laylatul Qadr?
Laylatul Qadr is one of the most significant and blessed nights in the Islamic calendar. It is also known as the Night of Power, Night of Decree, or Night of Value. It falls in the last ten nights of the holy month of Ramadan and is believed to be the night when the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
According to Islamic tradition, Laylatul Qadr is a night of great blessings and rewards for the believers. Muslims are encouraged to spend this night in prayer and worship, seeking forgiveness, and asking for Allah’s mercy and blessings. It is said that whoever prays on this night with sincerity and devotion will be rewarded with the equivalent of a thousand months of worship.
The significance of Laylatul Qadr is highlighted in the Qur’an where it is mentioned in Surah Al-Qadr:
“In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree.
And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?
The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.
Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (Qur’an 97:1-5)
The exact date of Laylatul Qadr is not known, but it is believed to be one of the odd nights in the last ten days of Ramadan, i.e., the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th night. Muslims are encouraged to increase their worship during these nights, particularly the odd nights.
There are several Hadiths related to the significance and rewards of Laylatul Qadr. One Hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) states that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever prays during the night of Qadr with faith and hoping for its reward will have all of his previous sins forgiven.” (Sahih Bukhari)
Another Hadith narrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) states that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.” (Sahih Bukhari)
Islamic history is replete with instances of the significance of Laylatul Qadr. The revelation of the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) began on this night, and it is said that the first revelation was sent down when the Prophet was in the cave of Hira. Muslims believe that the Qur’an is the literal word of God and that its revelation is one of the most significant events in human history.
In conclusion, Laylatul Qadr is a night of great significance in the Islamic calendar. It is a night of blessings and rewards for the believers who seek Allah’s mercy and forgiveness. Muslims are encouraged to spend this night in prayer and worship, seeking the pleasure of Allah and striving to be among those who are forgiven and rewarded on this blessed night.
